Girl Guide Association of Curaçao Celebrates 100 Years of World Thinking Day
Willemstad, Curaçao – The Girl Guide Association of Curaçao proudly celebrated the 100th anniversary of World Thinking Day with a vibrant and meaningful program centered around this year’s theme: “Our Friendship.” The event brought together members, leaders, and supporters on a memorable day of reflection, unity, and celebration of the global sisterhood of Girl Guiding. We have been even surprised with a visit from our friend Monique Bijlhout, a guider from Suriname.
The celebration commenced with an impressive flag parade, featuring marching members in full uniform. The ceremonial opening honored a century of World Thinking Day traditions, recognizing the movement’s enduring commitment to leadership, service, and international friendship.
A powerful highlight of the event was the symbolic release of more than 110 white pigeons. The birds represented the 10 past decades of World Thinking Day celebrations and the continued growth of the movement into the future. The soaring pigeons served as a moving symbol of peace, hope, unity, and the lasting bonds of friendship that connect Girl Guides around the world.
Throughout the day, members participated in a variety of interactive activities designed to deepen their understanding of friendship and the global sisterhood of Girl Guiding. Through educational and creative sessions and games, girls explored the values of trust, cooperation, empathy, and international solidarity that define the movement.
The celebration concluded with a meaningful gesture: each girl received a friendship knot keychain. As a symbol of connection and commitment, the girls were encouraged to exchange their keychain with another member as a token of the friendship they have or the friendship they hope to build. This simple but powerful act reflected the spirit of the theme and reinforced the bonds formed during the event.
