WHO CAN BECOME AN ELVITA?

A girl who:

  1. is between 4 and 6 years old;
  2. has permission from her parent(s) or guardian(s);
  3. has completed the registration form and paid the registration fee.

NAME

Girls in this age category belong to the Elvita section of our organization.

Where does this name come from?

The name Elvita is derived from the name of one of the pillars of our organization, Mrs. Norma Elizabeth Galaraga, who served as a leader for Brownies and Guides. She was a very kind person who deeply loved children. She was also one of the first Guides installed in Curaçao.

Her Guide name was Elvi, which means “A Light for Everyone.”
You could always turn to Elvi with any problem. Her caring and calm character inspired many and showed that every problem can also have a positive side.

To honor her legacy, PNA decided to name the youngest section of the organization after her.

Elvita represents the seed of A.G.C.

STRUCTURE

GARDEN

The “Garden” of our Elvitas is their meeting place, where they gather, play, and carry out their activities. It is the space where they complete their tasks and explore their abilities during a program that lasts a minimum of one hour and a maximum of three hours.

A full Garden consists of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 Elvitas, divided into five small groups of 5 to 6 girls.
It is recommended that the Garden is neither too large nor too small.

LEADERS

The leaders within the Elvita Garden are called:

  • Solita – the leader in charge of the Elvita section
  • Lunita – assistant leader
  • Nubiyita – assistant leader

Brownies | 7 to 11 years

BROWNIES - WHAT ARE THEY?

They are small, friendly characters from stories.

A Brownie is a kind young girl who enjoys helping others.

Why are they called Brownies?

Lord Baden-Powell started Guiding for boys and girls in England. The idea became very popular and quickly spread around the world.

At first, only older girls could become Guides. However, their younger sisters also wanted to join so they could take part in the same interesting and exciting activities. Lord Baden-Powell first called the younger girls “Rosebuds,” but they did not like the name. Rosebuds are beautiful and smell nice, but they do not do anything.

So Lord Baden-Powell thought carefully. He remembered the stories he had heard as a child about little people called Brownies. They were small, cheerful, and helpful characters who did interesting things. They helped people in many ways and made them happy.

That is exactly what he wanted for the younger girls, so he decided to call them Brownies.
